How to check an APK's SHA-256 checksum
A checksum proves that the file you downloaded is exactly the one the developer published. How to check it on Android, Windows, macOS and Linux.
Every file on apkarsivi has a SHA-256 checksum: a 64-character fingerprint calculated from the file's contents. If even a single byte of the file changes, the checksum changes completely. Comparing it is the simplest way to be sure that the APK was not damaged during the download and was not modified by anyone.
Where to find it
The checksum is shown under each download button on the version page. Use the Copy button to copy it.
On Android
Install a free, open-source hash checker such as Hash Checker or Hasher, open the downloaded APK with it, choose SHA-256 and paste the copied checksum. The app tells you whether they match.
On Windows
Open PowerShell in the download folder and run:
Get-FileHash .\file.apk -Algorithm SHA256
On macOS
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/file.apk
On Linux
sha256sum ~/Downloads/file.apk
What the result means
- Same value: the file is exactly the one the developer published. You can install it.
- Different value: the download was interrupted or the file was changed. Delete it and download it again. If the values still differ, do not install the file.
Upper and lower case letters do not matter; the 64 characters must be the same.
